Trial lesson at a driving school: 12 questions to ask

A trial lesson is more than your first introduction to driving. It’s the moment you find out whether the instructor, teaching method, and agreements of a driving school really suit you. Asking the right questions helps you avoid getting stuck later with a package that doesn’t feel right. Ask about lesson structure Let the instructor explain how a standard lesson is structured, how new skills are taught, and when your progress is discussed. A good driving school can explain this clearly without vague promises. Discuss the instructor and lesson car Ask whether you will always drive with the same instructor and whether you’ll stay in the same lesson car. Consistency helps, because the instructor knows your learning points and you don’t have to get used to everything again each time. Make all costs transparent Ask about the price of individual lessons, package terms, exam fees, administration costs, and cancellation rules. Also check what happens to unused lessons if you are ready for your exam sooner. The twelve questions What does a normal driving lesson look like? Will I have a fixed instructor? How is my progress tracked? How often will I get feedback? What lesson length do you recommend? What does a single lesson cost? What extra costs are there? What are the cancellation rules? When do you schedule a mock test?Who decides when I can take my exam? How long is the current waiting time? Can I take time to decide after the trial lesson? Also pay attention to how it feels The connection with the instructor matters a lot. You should feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and understanding feedback.
